Let Us Repent and Forgive

Forgive us as we forgive, Jesus breaks down the Lord’s prayer so smoothly. After telling us how to pray, and specifically how to ask for forgiveness, He then tells us that we must also forgive. Surely these two concepts don’t belong in the same sentence. Yes they do and our Devotional Team aims to help us see just how integral “Repentance from Sin and Unforgiveness” are to the believer.
SCRIPTURE: 12 “And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.” 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6: 12, 14
A legend says that the Devil once came to a sinner during confession, saying that he came to make restitution. On being asked what he would restore, he said: ”Shame. For it is shame that I have stolen from this sinner, making him shameless in sinning; and now I have come to restore it to him, to make him ashamed to confess his sins.” I John1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all  unrighteousness.” He – our Savior, He our propitiation, He our Sacrificial Lamb, He is FAITHFUL to honor HIS Word.

Confession is the Greek word “homos” (same) and “lego” (to say) – we must call our sin what God calls it. Proverbs 28:13 says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” When we as believers confess personal sins and profess faith in Christ then God will faithfully forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Fellowship that was broken with our Lord and even with others can be restored with a broken and contrite heart that God won’t despise. You can never repent too soon, because you don’t know that your soon may be too late, and as a believer you may lose an eternal reward.

Forgiveness is letting go of malice, the right to retaliate and the desire to hang onto emotional consequences of a hurt. It is truly a process of many layers that must be prayed through and obeyed if we want our sins forgiven.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that no matter how many times I break Your heart with my unrepentant sins, that as time is given to me, I can run to the throne of GRACE and find mercy and help!! Heaven will be heaven because I won’t hurt Your heart anymore. Hallelujah!!!
