Why Did I Choose Genesis?

SCRIPTURE: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” Matthew 5: 14-16

As I reflect on my life’s journey, I thought about the year I was looking for a church to worship and grow as a Christian in God’s Word. On my job, I worked with a few Christians. But there was one young lady, Lee Doris Palmer, who showed a special enthusiasm not only for her church, but her witness for Jesus. Sister Lee became a positive influence in my life to visit Genesis.

Through Sister Lee’s conversations on the job, I became interested in her church, Genesis, and the ministries offered to fit my family’s spiritual growth and needs. Genesis was located on Walker Avenue at the time. My first visit blessed my family and I with a welcoming, friendly, family hospitality. I especially enjoyed the weekly Sunday social treats and fellowship before service and Sunday School. From one light shining for Jesus on a job to a church encouraging growth in God’s Word gave me reasons to become a member.

PRAYER: PRAYER: Dear Lord, teach us to be vessels of light that others see a testimony of Your love through everything we do and say. May our witness for You be glorified in our everyday life that others see Your good works and glorify our Heavenly Father. Holy Spirit, strengthen us to be a bold witness in our faith. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
