Desiring to Be Lead and to Grow

In celebration of Genesis Bible Fellowship's 40th Pastoral & Church Anniversary we would like to take the month of June to share Devotionals based upon when and how the Lord led each writer to Genesis! Bible Fellowship Church. Enjoy today's devotional and may it remind you of when you were led to this branch of Zion!
SCRIPTURE: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”  Psalms 42:1-2
My wife and I attended a church where there was a lot of activity. This church also majored on singing, but minored on teaching and preaching the Word. We were blessed with a daughter after trying several times. One Sunday while sitting in the service, the Word was being preached. It hit like a ton of bricks that we were hearing the same thing over and over. There was no growth for the church spiritually as well as myself personally. Now having a wife and a daughter, I had a burden to get my family under the Word so that we could grow. I shared this burden with my wife and at first she was a little reluctant to leave that church we were in. It was a family church and the family thought everyone should go to that church.

I had a co-worker who was a believer. I shared my burden with her. She didn’t tell me about her church. She told me about Genesis. After a little time, my wife and I visited Genesis for the first time in April 1988. At that time the services were being held at The League for the Handicapped. After the first service when we heard Pastor Cockrell preach from Psalm 51 and I also saw someone give their life to Jesus, I knew this was where we needed to be. Several months went by and we continued to visit Genesis. Finally, we filled out the back of the program and checked the spot that indicated we wanted to become members. In August 1988 we received the right hand of fellowship and have been here since that day.

The family was upset that we left our old church and we even experienced some not speaking to us. In spite of that, following the Lord’s leading was the best thing we ever did. We have grown personally and as a couple since we came to Genesis.

PRAYER:  Lord we are so grateful for Your leading. You know what we need to do and where we need to be. Thank You for a place where the Word is taught and people are edified. Continue to bless and lead. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
