HE GOES BEFORE

SCRIPTURE:  "And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you.  He will be with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:8
This morning, I was compelled to escape a mounting cesspool of pessimism. I’d been stuck over the past several days in a kind of affective quicksand and was in need of a speedy deliverance! It may have resulted from a recurrent pattern of interrupted sleep, or a lapse in quality meditation time in God’s Word. [This last possibility seems most likely].

Then the Spirit of God spoke to my heart –not audibly, of course!  His tender words seemed to be,  ‘But I am with you, daughter, when inexplicable moods sweep over your soul on occasion, remember, I am the omniscient Savior God, your Jehovah Shalom, before whom nothing that happens in you, to you, or around you ever takes Me by surprise.  In fact, sometimes I am the One sovereignly orchestrating the circumstances in your life to remind you that I am THE One upon whom your gaze must always be fixed---NOT on people [intercessory prayer for them is  excepted], NOT the threats imposed by adverse global conditions, or things as volatile as the local weather or even community crime reports. These are not to shake your focus and reliance upon Me as your most trustworthy source of joy, peace, protection, and strength—but I AM!’ [Exodus 3:14; John 8:58]

Through a quality period of meditating on God’s Word, these thoughts lifted me out of that fog of pessimism.  The next time you find yourself focusing too much on things in this fallen world—be it unfavorable economic conditions, unlovely souls in your midst, or difficulties of any description, reflect on the fact that nothing is hidden from our Lord’s all-seeing eyes. He has infinite understanding of all that touches you and me and causes all things to WORK TOGETHER for the good of those who love Him and are fitting into His purposes.  That said, let us walk in this God-given confidence that He is the sovereign God over all!

PRAYER:  Dear Abba, I praise and thank You for continual reminders that You are the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent Savior God of all who cares about all that happens to Your twice-born people.  Help us to retain the knowledge of the fact that “….in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them [Ps. 139:16b].”  Amen!
