Showing Love to Others Who Don’t Respect You

SCRIPTURE: “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13
To me this verse means to show the same love that Jesus showed us everywhere we go. I feel like showing love and respect to each other is very important because if we didn’t, it would be a bad reflection of God in our relationship with others. Love isn’t something you just feel, it is also something you do. You can show somebody love by cooking their favorite meals, putting others first, and serving them before yourself. Jesus showed his love by dying on the cross for us.

Respect is something that some people don’t understand because they don’t have a relationship with God. An excellent example of being a light for God is showing respect to your friends. Respect means to treat someone the way you would want to be treated and that goes a long way. On field day this year, my friends and I were enjoying ourselves and having fun playing fowling, which is bowling and football combined. One of the middle school boys in my homeschool group, took the football from me and threw it into the bowling pins. My first reaction was to look at him like he was crazy. I wanted to tell him about himself, but I calmed myself down. I thought about something my mom always says. She would tell me to ask myself, when I’m in situations like this, “What would Jesus do?”  This particular young man is a good kid with a whole lot of “ENERGY.” So I humbled myself as Jesus would and decided to not let it bother me.

God knew my heart because I was able to recover the ball, and trust me, that would not have happened without the Lord! I could have retaliated, but it didn’t feel right. I thank God for giving me the strength to make the right decision.

PRAYER: Dear God, please help me to stay humble so that I may share the love that Your Son has shown to me. So that I may continue to be a light in this world for You, so that others may want to get to know Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Excellent devotional, Sis. Paige! Loving as Jesus commands requires His supernatural enablement, but He gives His own that capability as we let Him have His way. Insightful article!

Yes, Paige, it’s supernatural! His ways become our ways. The Holy Spirit actively works in our lives.❤️
