We are Family

SCRIPTURE: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” Ephesians 1:3-6
Not everyone fully understands what it means to be adopted in the family of God. Many don’t
understand that when he/she accepts Christ as his/her personal Savior they become joint heirs to Christ, having full access to the riches of God. Non-believers don’t understand that being a child of God gives full access. It is no different than a child being adopted, that child is now a part of a family with full access to all that family has. The birth certificate reflects new parents.

In the movie, Annie, Daddy Warbucks wanted to adopt Annie, but the Head Mistress of the
Orphanage tried with all her might to block the adoption. Daddy Warbucks used all his
resources to get Annie and when he did, he celebrated with others. There was singing and
dancing and genuine happiness. I imagine that’s the way the Lord feels when we accept Christ. We are now joint heirs to the throne of God with access to the inheritance. The Bible tells us that we inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the foundation of the world (Matthew 25:34). God was waiting for us! When we accept Christ, we instantly inherit that which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading (1 Peter 1:4). It can’t be taken! It can’t go bad! It can’t go away! This fact alone should have you shouting. God met us where we were in our sin and said, I want you in my family as my child, not stepchild, not bonus child, just simply His child. That is great news, worthy of praise.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, that You for qualifying us to share in the inheritance of the saints of God. Thank You for choosing us to be a part of Your family. Thank You for looking past our sins and seeing what we could be. Thank You for making it so clear that once in the family, there is no getting disowned. Thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your only Begotten Son to die for us. In the matchless name of Jesus, Amen
