The Church

Our GBFC Youth and Young Adults take over our Devotionals for the Month of June and we look forward to the exhortation they will share. Please make sure to leave a word of encouragement in the comment section-it only takes a minute.
SCRIPTURES:
“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 NKJV
“How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” Proverbs 16:16 NKJV
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7 NKJV
One day, my dad (Deacon Buck) offered me the opportunity to come and sit in on Men’s Ministry. This time, my dad brought up the topic of “The Church” and how the Church sees itself. Then, one of the men posed a question to me, “How do you, Joshua, see the Church as a member of the youth?”

I sat back and thought about the question deeply. The first thing that came to mind was the experiences you get to hear about from many wise people in the Church. When I use the word ‘wise’ here, I’m specifically talking about the people in the Church who have been through something, who have learned from their mistakes, and who now have the ability to share those lessons with others.

And really, that’s everyone in the Church. Because we all go through things and grow. But what makes our Church special is that we specialize in that growth. We have so many people who are rich—rich in their experiences and in what they can share with the youth or anyone who’s willing to listen, so that others don’t have to make the same mistakes.
The truth is, I love to learn, and I’m not the type to go out on my own just to fail. I would rather follow and learn from those around me so I can flourish in God’s purpose, not my own.

Our Church doesn’t lack anything. We are right where we belong—a Church full of wisdom that is ready to share with anyone who needs it and is willing to receive it. OUR CHURCH IS RICH. Not in my eyes, or the world’s eyes, but in God’s eyes—through the experiences He has brought you through.

And I say thank You for that.

PRAYER: Lord God, I pray that You would please humble my prideful spirit. I ask that You would open my eyes to opportunities that will showcase Your glory and Your glory alone. I pray that Your will be done in all things and  that You would help me with my understanding of that.
Amen.
