What Type of Woman Are You?
SCRIPTURES:
- “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10
- “the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things” Titus 2:3

As mom was cooking dinner, young Susie came in and ask, “Mom, what type of woman are you?” This random question from Susie perplexed mom. Seeing the perplexed look on mom’s face, Susie said, “Ms. Janice was listening to a podcast about a virtuous woman and afterwards her and Ms. Naomi discussed it. Ms. Naomi said she was more of a Titus 2 woman and Ms. Janice stood firm on being a virtuous woman. It seems by their debate that one woman is better than the other”, the child concluded, “So, mom, what type of woman of are you?"
Now, that mom had context she thought deeply but quickly. She wiped her hands on her apron and said, “Susie, I believe I am a little of both. I take care of you and your dad, most times I’m up before everyone and go to bed after everyone. I pick and purchase the things we need in the home and our bodies. I do not embarrass us when we are out with my behavior or my appearance. I try very hard to not be wasteful and I also help those less fortunate. These are attributes of a Proverbs 31 woman. But I also am an example of modesty and godliness for younger females like your teammates and your friends. As I have grown in the Lord, my language has changed and I’m not known to use bad words or be loud and disagreeable. My attire is appropriate, modest but feminine. I try to be an example or guide to young women in new relationships not just by my words but with my attitude toward your dad. And I listen and adhere to the wisdom of godly women who are older than me. These are the attributes of a Titus 2 woman. So, Susie, I strive to be both not putting one as greater than the other. What’s most important is that we live our lives pleasing to the Lord. When we do that the characteristics of Christ will shine through us and that will truly show that type of woman we are.”
Susie smiled and hugged her mom. She thanked her for explaining the difference and then grabbed her apron to help with dinner.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father thank You for the examples of a Proverbs 31 and Titus 2 woman. Thank You for caring enough about women to guide and lead us specifically. Sometimes it is hard being viewed as second class citizens to man and it is wonderful to see that You do not view us as such. Thank You for Your Word that provides examples of the woman we should be. Forgive us when we fall short. Put godly men in our lives as examples for our sons and daughters. Surround us with godly women so that we can be sound examples as well to our sons and daughters. In the matchless name of Jesus, Amen.
