Heart over Head
SCRIPTURE: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones." Proverbs 3:5-8

When I was younger and part of the “Boys of Christ” ministry at Genesis, this was one of the first verses that really stuck with me. Each letter in “Boys of Christ” had a meaning, and the “Y” stood for “yield—surrender and produce.” That message of surrender continues to shape me today. It teaches me to choose trust and faith over control. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds me to trust God fully and not rely on my own understanding. It speaks directly to my tendency to overanalyze, trying to plan everything ahead of time, and at times figuring things out on my own behalf.
This verse has anchored me in times when life didn’t go as I hoped. It reminds me that God’s plan is greater than mine and that acknowledging Him in all I do brings peace and clarity. When I’ve made decisions on my own, things often didn’t work out the way I expected. But when I lean on God and submit to Him, He faithfully directs my path. This verse has taught me that pride leads to trouble, but trust leads to peace and purpose. It’s not easy at times but I strive hard to always trust God and let him take care of everything else.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word that gently reminds me to trust You with all my heart. Today, I choose to surrender. So often, I try to lean on my own understanding, to control things I was never meant to carry or even worry about. I acknowledge You in every part of my life—my decisions, my relationships, my worries, and my future. Teach me to continue to walk in humility and wisdom, to turn away from anything that pulls me from what You have in store for me. Continue to straighten my steps and give me a heart that depends on You fully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To God be the Glory, Bro. Devin, and YES, surrendering is always on the menu! Thanks for this encouragement and reminder that His Word is an anchor! God bless!
Amen brother Devin. That's one of my favorite verses! You keep trusting in him! ?
Bro. Devin, your devotional has blessed my heart. Knowing you back in the early days of "Boys of Christ" and seeing you are still walking in faith and maturing brings great joy to my heart. We all need a reminder to trust God and let Him take care of everything else. Thanks for the blessing.
