God’s Word Scaffolds How We Should Live
SCRIPTURE: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2nd Timothy 3: 16-17

Scaffolding is a removable structure made from poles and wooden planks to provide support to those cleaning, fixing, or building a structure. In education, scaffolding is used to support students in mastering a new skill or concept. For example, before we can solve a system of equations (usually 2 or more equations with the same amount of variables/unknowns), we must first know how to solve a single equation and build on that knowledge.
God’s Word provides a scaffold for how we should live from the foundation set by Ten Commandments to the kingdom promised to us through eternal life through Jesus Christ. Exodus 20 gives us the first of many commandments from God providing a foundation to a Christian life. It is through those commandments that right and wrong is established. As we venture further into God’s Word the frame of the structure is built. In Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job we learn how to make decisions, how to deal with conflict and wealth, speak carefully, and trust God. Job teaches us that through any trial God still holds the power and brings us through the storm with purpose. The prophets keep Christians accountable to God’s commandments by emphasizing justice, mercy, humility, and faithfulness foreshadowing the coming of the Savior Jesus and the consequences/rewards of our choices (Isaiah 1: 16-20). In the New Testament, the life and teachings of Jesus imprints the foundation set in the Old Testament. Christians are reminded to love your neighbor and forgive your enemies. Jesus lived a life full of humility and service providing us with the greatest sacrifice when He died for our sins. We receive guidance on how to apply Jesus’ life and teachings to our everyday life and within our communities. Finally in Revelations 21-22, we are reminded of how this all ends, in eternity in God’s Kingdom with Jesus.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for providing us with the framework to live a life that is pleasing to You. Surround us with people to keep us accountable to Your Word and let Your will be done in our lives. In Jesus name, Amen.

Amen. All scripture is given by God and is profitable for living a God-pleasing life. In this sense being 'spiritual' requires His Word whether one is 'religious' or not. Thanks, Sister Patrice, for the scaffolding analogy so well applied. God be praised! Christ is our firm foundation!
Amen sister Patrice! ? Thanks for this encouraging devotional!
